The Life of Crime
Today's Globe-inspired rantlet is brought on by this story from their "wacky news" section (technically, "Odds and Ends.")
The men called the Latah County Sheriff's Office early Wednesday morning to report that their TV and VCR had been destroyed and their video game console was missing, Sheriff's spokeswoman Darla Buckley said. But as deputies checked the perimeter of the home for suspects, they allegedly spotted some pot plants growing in a doorless shed. Investigators have no leads so far on the home burglary, Buckley said, but they did take Wellman and Beyer into custody.
The moral I draw from this little story is that bad laws undermine good laws. If you're violating the laws against pot cultivation, you'd better think twice about calling the authorities when someone commits a crime against you. The police may find that they have better things to do than go after a mere burglar when there are horticulturalists on the loose.
