Oh, look, dear. There's a lion on your porch.
Cougars in Massachusetts? If not now, then soon, suggests this Globe article.
Okay, yeah, I'm increasingly hooked on these Glob RSS feeds. I dunno why the damn paper looks so much more interesting viewed through SharpReader than through the reg'lar web.
Update: I feel like I should clarify my own views on the suburbanization of big cats. I think it's great! We need more big scary wild animals in our lives. Personally--and I say this as someone who's never handled a working firearm in his life--if the price of combining sound ecosystems and personal safety is carrying a rifle when I go for a walk in the forest, I'll pay that price with pleasure. Bring it on, as our beloved and respected president would say.

The Well of Despair
A powerful, disturbing article about the work of primate researcher Harry Harlow, with a totally inappropriate "cute" title.
Squick warning: Describes some chillingly cruel experiments.

Underwood casemod
An insane canadian gutted an old mechanical typewriter and built a computer inside, complete with typewriter-key sound effects when he uses the keyboard.
While the paint was drying, I removed the glass topped typewriter keys from the typebars. Each key needed to be hack-sawed from the typebar and then ground down....Thankfully, everything fit.
Points get deducted for his apparently having to lift the machine every time he wants to insert a CD. Points fully restored for the carriage return actually working.
