Mulligatawny

About a decade ago, I went to an Indian restaurant with my mother. The waiter came over and asked us if we knew what we'd like to start with, and my mother said, "A vodka-and-tonic with lime." (her usual tipple) The waiter looked a little puzzled. "A vodka-and-tonic," she said, more slowly. "With lime." He nodded hesitantly and hurried off.

A few minutes later, he returned with a bowl of soup. "What's this?" my mother asked.

"Your mulligatawny with lamb."
